Sakakin Imo Karinto keeps it beautifully simple. Thin sticks of Kyushu-grown sweet potato are fried in rice oil until golden, then finished with shima sato, an island sugar made from sugarcane grown in Okinawa and Kagoshima. The Story Behind the Brand

Sakakin Seika has been making Japanese snacks since 1934, when the company was founded in Nagoya. For decades it has focused on simple, comforting treats that let natural ingredients like corn, rice, and sweet potato shine.

Imo karinto is one of the company’s proudest creations. Its sweet potato karinto earned the Prime Minister’s Award at Japan’s National Confectionery Exposition. Sakakin later reimagined the recipe using only Japanese-grown ingredients, and the result quickly became one of its most popular snacks.
